Description

Be guided by professional sculptor, Faith Bebbington, to create your own small scale figurative sculpture using polymer clay. This course will help you to understand the movement, mechanics and textures of sculpture using using simple hand tools to mould the clay. Suitable for beginners.

Program

Faith will introduce the basic modelling tools and techniques, help you consider and plan your design for a figure in action (people or an animal). Participants are welcome to bring along any ideas and inspiration for what you might want to make, eg photos, sketches.

Depending on your progress and the time available participants may be able to produce one or more pieces of wall mounted or free standing small sculpture. No previous experience is required.

Participants will learn to:

  • Research your design for a figure in action (people or an animal)

  • Consider proportion & scale of a figure

  • Build a small wire armature (framework)

  • Prepare and work with polymer clay

  • Use various modelling techniques and tools

  • Bake the sculpture

  • Finish the surface

Tutor: Faith Bebbington

Faith Bebbington is a professional artist with a studio based in Liverpool, having gained her sculpture degree in Winchester. She has over twenty years experience of creating sculpture for public, corporate and private clients, as well as for exhibition and sale. Her public art commissions include permanent works in Belfast, Derby, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Knowsley, Liverpool and London.

Recently the Football Association with Veolia Environment commissioned two life - size Lion sculptures for Wembley Stadium.

She is also a qualified teacher with a PGCE in Art. She has extensive experience of leading participatory arts workshops and art projects with schools and a wide range of community groups and organisations including Mencap Liverpool, National Trust, Refugee Action and National Museums Liverpool.

4th, 11th, 18th* April.

*Please note the final session on 18th April will take place at the artist's studio on Love Lane, Liverpool.

Cost

£160 for the 10 week course (full course must be booked in advance)

Materials

A tools list will be sent nearer to the time of the course beginning.

Additional materials (such as clay, wire etc) will be provided. Please bring £10 in cash to your first session to purchase a set of materials for the course directly from Faith Bebbington.

Notes

  • There are a maximum of 15 places available on the course, so early booking is essential.

Cancellations / Refunds

Once you have made your course booking your are committed to it. This is because our courses have very small student numbers, and often sell-out and are unavailable to others. Therefore any cancellations may result in a place not being filled, or a course not being able to run.

Cancellations are permitted up to six weeks before the start of a course, and a full refund will be issued. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than six weeks before the start of a course. If you are unable to attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments you do not have the right to a refund.

If you wish to cancel your place on a course that has not yet started and you have a friend or colleague who can take your place we can accommodate this substitution.
